INTRODUCING QUICK READS BY CURIO'S BOUTIQUE

Hey, I'm Maddie (aka @fromxthextower) and I'm a writer and visual poet based in Newcastle upon Tyne. I'm currently studying for a practice-led PhD on woman-led horror film and intertextual poetics at Northumbria University and I also work as a part-time administrator for the housing rights charity Shelter. In case you're wondering, the little cat sitting behind me in the photo is my precious boy Egon, named after the 20th Century expressionist painter Egon Schiele.

When I'm not studying or obsessing over how cute Egon is, I enjoy browsing charity shops for bargains and attending kilo sales, which is how I came to start an online business selling vintage and pre-loved clothing and accessories.

Due to launch on 31 August, Curio's Boutique is where I'll be selling handpicked, high quality, sustainably sourced clothing and accessories in a diverse range of styles. Over the last few months I've been busy photographing and uploading the gorgeous pieces I've been collecting, including scarves, jumpers, bomber jackets, and dresses, and I can't wait to share them with you soon!

As well as hoping to make a bit of money to support myself through the final unfunded stages of my PhD, I'm also keen to use my thrifting adventures to promote sustainable fashion and learn about the designs, textiles, and patterns I encounter along the way. As such Curio's Quick Reads is a space I'll be using to document my favourite finds and share brief write ups about the fascinating histories and cultural movements they belong to.

I'll also be using this space to share exclusive previews of items uploaded for sale when the shop launches so please do stay in touch if you'd like to be in the loop.
